The, department of treasury, is hiring 3. These positions have similar duties and responsibilities. The main purpose of these positions is to provide leading-edge assistance and general accounting support to departments and agencies in Montgomery County.

Responsibilities for all three positions consist of a variety of office and administrative processes and methods, including working at an intermediate or higher level of proficiency with computer programs such as Microsoft Office 365, Oracle, MUNIS and Siebel. The successful candidates will be continuously trained to support other functions within the Treasury Division, including, but not limited to, cashiers, excise and transfer / survey areas. Duties include tax information and payment processing, preparation and reconciliation of daily transfer / survey group work, assistance with electronic transfer processes and cashier processing of property tax bills, processing of photo quotes and parking fines, processing of cash transactions, daily deposits and reconciliation of daily receipts. .

For all three positions, the successful candidates must be able to develop and maintain excellent customer service skills, exercise good professional judgment when dealing with sensitive situations and challenge clients, operate in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Transfer Division –

Acts as a processor of writing instruments in the tax / transfer tax office. Duties will include providing customer service to taxpayers visiting the treasury department by providing information on transfer / record tax and payment processing, reviewing deeds, mortgages, trust deeds, contracts and other writing instruments, preparing tax certificates, maintaining files for state agriculture and Transfer Taxes paid in Baltimore, reviewing road club fees and calculating amounts due, preparing and reconciling daily group work, assisting with electronic transfer processes and working on special projects. Position also supports other functions in the section for tax operations, including the preparation of property tax, the review and correction of property tax accounts, the collection of property tax, the calculation and collection of the recovery of state and provincial credits and to assist clients at the front of the treasury or by calling with questions about property taxes. The work consists of a variety of office and administrative processes and methods, including the use of office automation systems and personal computers (computer), including the following: the simplification system; and Internet-based computer applications to enter and retrieve data using keyboard skills in an efficient and effective manner, in accordance with the requirements of the post.

Cashier / Property Tax –

Provide leading customer service; assisting Montgomery County residents to do business with the Treasury; and provides general accounting support to departments and agencies in Montgomery County.

The primary responsibilities are the collection and processing of all taxes and cash receipts from individuals and businesses, such as real estate and personal property taxes, automatic red light for camera cameras, speeding and payment of school buses; to ratify business license forms in accordance with prescribed laws and regulations; and to serve as the primary point of contact for the Fare Media sales activities. Under supervision, the incumbent is also responsible for various financial activities, including daily cash, check and credit card intake, and efficient, accurate and timely processing of cash receipts from customers visiting the Treasury department.

Ordinary duties include the processing of the following: property tax and personal property tax; discounts on tax sales; automatic reporting of red light photos, automatic reporting of speed cameras and fines for school buses; business license fees; and the Fare Media bus pass sales. Additional recurring duties also include handling cash transactions; daily bank deposits; and the daily cash reconciliation of receipts.

Excise Tax Department –

Responsible for the independent administration of the province’s pocket tax program and assistance with excise taxes, including the fuel energy tax, the telephone tax, the passing (hotel) tax, the e-cigarette tax and the gross tax on the rental of heavy equipment. The employee will assist the program manager with the Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board (PTAAB) and Income Tax Compensation Credit (ITOC) and the administration of the hardship exemptions for the cost of water quality and the Bay Restoration Fund. Other duties include supporting baggage tax related MC311 service requests, EIC / SDAT programs, and will assist with special excise tax projects.

A criminal background and credit history investigation will be conducted on selected candidates prior to the appointment and will be an important factor in the hiring decision.

Minimum qualifications

Experience: Four (4) years of gradually responsible, fiscally related spiritual experience (eg posting journal entries, processing fiscal actions using automated systems), including proven proficiency with integrated word processing and spreadsheet functions.

Education: Completion of an Associate of Arts degree with a major in accounting or completion of 12 acceptable credit hours in accounting.

Equivalence: An equivalent combination of training and experience can be substituted.
Preferred Criteria

The applications of those who meet the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the scope, relevance of training and experience in the following areas: * Experience with the Annotated Code of Maryland; preference for experience with the article on tax goods on the Annotated Code.

  • Experience with the public in a customer service representative or similar role.
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite, including using Excel for tax administration.
  • Experience with the Oracle E-Business Suite, MUNIS property tax system, Siebel or other similar Internet-based computer applications to enter and retrieve data.
  • Experience multi-take in a deadline-oriented environment.
