Job title: Administrative Assistant
Company: Somerset County Council
Job description: A little about us
You do not have to be a social worker to make a difference. There is so much going on behind the scenes to support our children with disabilities, assessment and protection services. That’s why we’re looking for an experienced administrator to join our business support team. This role is a fixed term for 9 months.
The team is part of Somerset County Council’s Children’s Social Care and works with vulnerable children and young people in care, their parents and carers in Somerset.
Here’s what you can expect to do
It is an administrative role like no other! No two days are the same. You provide proactive, office-based support as part of a dedicated team of administrators who provide support to our assessment, security and children with disabilities teams. You will play a leading role in supporting the service for children with disabilities with general administrative tasks; this will include working directly with the community inclusion activity team to promote and support the discussion of short-term calendar activities for children and their families in Somerset.
The nature of the work is sensitive and highly confidential; the tasks are diverse, and you get full training and support to undertake them.
There are many opportunities for development and career advancement in our child services support teams. All of our current Child Social Assistance Support Officers and our Business Support Managers have joined us as administrators. We have many former Business Support colleagues who are inspired to pursue an operational career in social care, and they have been supported by us to do so.
A few things about you
It is really important that you are passionate about helping to improve the lives of vulnerable children and young people in Somerset. As an administrative assistant, you will have a warm, friendly, non-judgmental manner. You need to be calm and friendly in difficult situations and conversations. Good organizational skills, willingness to learn, the ability to be a good team player, multitasking and the ability to work on your own initiative are the key to success in this role.
It is a fast, responsive role and you are expected to manage a number of diverse tasks simultaneously. The workload can be huge, and attention to detail is essential to ensure that information is correct. You must be familiar with all Microsoft Office programs.
If this role is facing the customer, you need to speak English fluently.
The salary for this role is £ 18,562 – £ 18,933 per annum.
