Supervised by the Health Information Management Site Lead, the incumbent offers front-line reception, registration and switchboard services. The incumbent picks up, sorts and files documents and registers all inpatients and outpatients. The incumbent will greet all patients and visitors and respond to requests. There is a requirement to respond and coordinate the communication of the site, including the necessary steps in emergency situations (overhead). Responsibilities will also include financial functions for receipts, deposits and petty cash. The incumbent must be able to exercise good judgment and initiative in completing tasks and be able to work with a high degree of independence, confidentiality, accuracy, accountability and perform any other related duties as assigned. Grade 12 or equivalent completed. Additional required qualifications:
Healthcare experience with completion of a medical terminology course or course to be completed within 3 months of hire. Proof of course completion required. Computer experience and experience with an admission / discharge / transfer program, preferably Meditech. Must possess and demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to work under very little supervision, as well as to work effectively in a team environment. Able to maintain balance under pressure, prioritize and organize work in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrate the ability to communicate in a positive way. Must have a proven track record of maintaining privacy and confidentiality with sensitive information and situations. Requires a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm (corrected for errors). A typing test is administered. Must be able to provide administrative services for health records. Must be physically able to perform duties including sitting, standing, bending, walking and stretching for a long time. Must be able to read, write, speak and communicate effectively in the English language. An excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be proved by your job references. Preferred qualifications:
Medical office assistant / unit clerk course (or equivalent). Switchboard experience. Basic knowledge of accounting.
