Want to be part of one of the most ambitious property licensing schemes in London?

  • Exciting and challenging work environment – lots of variety and opportunities to expand your capabilities
  • Career advancement – we offer training and courses to enhance your potential
  • A variety of staff benefits, from flexible work and a tax-free bike scheme to discounts in shops and interest-free travel loans.

We are looking for permanent licensing assistants to support the maintenance and licensing functions of the private sector.

Waltham Forest is designated a selective licensing area and was one of the first councils to adopt and use powers to impose monetary fines as an alternative to prosecution proceedings.

The appointed assistants provide administrative, office and, where necessary, fieldwork support activities with regard to the licensing task team within the Directorate of Residence Services. Excellent oral and written communication skills and flexibility in work patterns and practices. Successful candidates play a key role in achieving licensing goals.

We are looking for motivated and dedicated officers with proven commitment to top quality regulatory services.

The Board will provide appropriate support to successful candidates in their professional development

The position with the license assistant is also open to job applicants.

About Waltham Forest

The London city of Waltham Forest is very ambitious. In 2019, the Council was the first London city of culture with a wide range of events during the year. We want to make sure that each and every one of our residents enjoys a quality life in London. The council has an attractive range of staff benefits:

  • flexible work options
  • season tickets and travel card loans
  • help with managing your finances and accessing an employee Credit Union
  • discount on membership of the gym at GLL leisure centers in the city
  • discounts at local pubs and restaurants
  • welfare assistance, including access to an employee assistance program

Join our growth plans

We have an extremely ambitious growth agenda and are proud to think ahead and an organization that sets high expectations. We work with partners to secure investments to make our city a better place.

Be part of the vision

Our goal is for every resident of Waltham Forest to enjoy a good life. We have a no-nonsense approach to getting things done and are embarking on a new phase in our transformation, where three key priorities will support our ‘Creating Futures’ strategy:

  • Keep Waltham Forest clean and safe
  • Ensure a decent roof over the residents’ heads
  • Improve residents’ life chances.

Equal opportunities

Waltham Forest is a diverse city where diversity is valued and is an integral part of both service delivery and service of its staff. The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population.

We use our statutory duties regarding race, gender and disability and best practices regarding age, religion and sexual orientation to ensure equal opportunities in the workplace.

The Council is committed to meeting its four strategic outcomes set out in the Waltham Forest Council Equality Plan:

  • Promoting equal opportunities
  • Against all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage
  • By ensuring that our staff members reflect the different communities of Waltham Forest at all levels
  • Provide fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent services to all.

Respect for diversity is a core value of the Council.
